Have a read through the Supervisor Job Description... does this sound like a role for you?! Once you are feeling confident as a Sales Ambassador, you can start speaking with your Manager about taking the next steps in your development. Junior Supervisors support the Manager and Trainee to run the sales floor in their absence. They have already mastered the Sales Ambassador role and are ready for more responsibility. They are leaders who are required to act as the Manager on duty, support the team, and ensure the customer experience is 5 star!
We like to train and develop for roles before the person steps into the new role. This is a great, low pressure way for you to see if you enjoy the role as well as for your Manager to assess your skills. All training for a Supervisor role happens before you are promoted!
Share your interest with your Manager! (Regardless of your skill level, its always great to share your goals so your Manager can help guide you)
Master being a great Sales Ambassador
Work with your Manager to complete the Supervisor courses - you must complete a minimum of courses 1-3 to be signed off, and you must finish courses 4 & 5 during your probation period.
See the Internal Hiring Toolbox for more information on the process!
Q: Do I have to work for Lush for more than a year to be a Supervisor?
A: No! There is no specific time you need to work for the company before you can be promoted. We appreciate everyone learns at a different pace - it's not a race, but you also don't have to wait a specific amount of time before you can work on being a Supervisor.
Q: My store doesn't have a Supervisor vacancy, can I still work on the courses?
A: Yes! We actually encourage Managers and staff to always be working on development courses to be ready for the next open position.
Q: I have applied for a Supervisor role before and didn't get the position, can I still work on courses?
A: Yes! Practice makes perfect and everyone learns at a difference pace. You can definitely continue working on your areas of opportunity and apply again in the future.
Q: My Manager stopped my courses, is this normal?
A: Maybe! We encourage you to have open communication with your Manager during the training process. Sometimes Managers will pause course work if your Sales Ambassador role is not performing well or if there are other things you need to improve on before taking on more responsibility. We want to set people up for success in roles, & you passing the course is very important - you may need to spend more time on one course than another, and sometimes you may need to take a break and try again in the future. Your Manager is the best resource for support!
Q: Are my chances of becoming a Supervisor better if I have been with the business longer than someone else?
A: No - we do not fill roles based on tenure. Everyone will go through the same development and interview process, the best candidate will be chosen and all candidates will receive positive and developmental feedback.
Q: Will my Manager come to me and ask me to be a Supervisor?
A: Maybe! Sometimes a Manager might see strength in your skills and suggest you pursue a Supervisor role. But don't worry, if your Manager doesn't come to you - that doesn't mean you aren't good. We always encourage staff to be proactive about their development!
Q: Can I apply to be a Supervisor in another store?
A: Yes! If there is a vacancy it will be posted in The Fizz. Make sure to speak with your currently Manager first before applying. You will need to show your Supervisor course logs and will most likely complete a floor trial with the hiring Manager.
