Here’s an introduction to our CW EBT Trustees and their role!
What is the role of a Trustee?
🖤 To look after the Employee Benefit Trust (and its shares) on behalf of all beneficiaries.
🖤 To understand the overall health of the business and ensure company decisions are made in the best interests of the beneficiaries and long-term financial health of the business.
🖤 To be guardians of the ethics through the Lush Ethical Charter.
🖤 To represent the voice and interest of the EBT beneficiaries at a shareholder level.
🖤 To be curious, ask questions and seek understanding.
Who are the Lush EBT Trustees?
Staff Elected Trustee: Cosmetic Warriors
Don has worked for Lush since 2002. Don started working in manufacturing as a summer job, working his way through many roles to become a master compounder. Don also has experience as an EC manager and stock control manager and spent 6 month with out Australian colleagues and an operations manager.
"I am back in the UK I look forward getting involved with the EBT and being a voice for our staff".
Staff Elected Trustee: Cosmetic Warriors
"When we first started the election process for the next EBT representatives in April, little did I know that I would find myself being elected a trustee in the end. I am truly overwhelmed with emotion that so many colleagues voted for me.
With the EBT and our Ethical Charter we have not only pledged ourselves to our values but also granted each employee a voice to shape our company. For me, this is democracy at its core because with this privilege comes the responsibility to get involved. Naturally, I am extremely curious what we will achieve together.
If I had one wish, I would encourage all employees to support a cause of their choosing as a volunteer.
Volunteering can create enrichment on all levels. It brings a valuable contribution to the cause itself, promotes personal development and will eventually feed new experiences and skills back to what you do at Lush. Wouldn’t you agree that it’s a true ‘win, win, win’ scenario?”
Independent Trustee
Helen brings with her over twenty years experience in the Employee Owned sector in an operational and non-executive capacity and is currently Trustee for several purpose led organisations.
“ Working with organisations that care for their people, communities, and planet deeply matters to me and I am truly inspired by Lush’s commitment to core values and ethical standards. I spent 18 years at John Lewis Partnership in a variety of independent and operational roles. It was there that I grew a genuine passion and respect for Employee Ownership as I saw in action the difference that ownership can make to an individual and an organisation.”
“Throughout the past year I have been blown away by the scale of your EBT network and the commitment made to strengthen this at every opportunity. You may only be 10% employee owned, but believe me, that 10% is being nurtured, respected, and listened to.”
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Lush and Cosmetic Warriors as the new Independent Trustee of your Employee Benefit Trusts. Not only do I love your products, but I applaud everything you stand for. Doing work of meaning is of great importance to me and I have enjoyed a career of working with and for several purpose led organisations."
Lush Director, Shareholder and Company Appointed EBT Trustee
Karl Bygrave started his career with Constantine & Weir, a previous business venture from the founders of Lush, in 1983 as a trainee product compounder.
During Karl’s 24 years of working for Lush, he has worked in and managed many areas of the business including UK Mail order operations, International Regulatory Affairs, Legal matters and Intellectual Property protection. To this day, Karl retains overall responsibility for Brand Protection within the Lush business.
"I'm very touched to have been asked to be a trustee as I believe it is an important aspect of the business and important recognition of every member of staff’s contribution."
Lush Co-Founder, Shareholder, Inventor and Company Appointed EBT Trustee.
