The program focuses on helping students move from basic computer users to confident digital learners and creators. Through hands-on activities, students strengthen their keyboard and typing skills, explore the basics of coding, and learn how digital tools can be used to communicate, explore, create, and solve problems. Students are also introduced to safe and responsible internet use and continue building their understanding of digital citizenship. These skills provide a foundation for more advanced typing, coding, research, productivity tools, and digital creation in the following grades.
Digital Technology builds on students’ Kindergarten computer skills by developing greater independence, keyboarding ability, and digital awareness. Students learn how to properly start and shut down computers, use the keyboard with greater accuracy, and practice typing fundamentals. Students also begin learning how to navigate the web safely, understand essential technology vocabulary, and practice responsible digital citizenship, including online safety, kindness, privacy, and asking trusted adults for help.
