IDEACon 2022 Day 1

Sessions Attended & Quick Takeaways:

Keynote: Principal Baruti Kafele

*BE Equity...care about your students as if they were your own. See & acknowledge who they are. Great motivational session & story of achievement & how to do for EACH student.

GamestormEdu: Jon Spike

Wow! So much I can say for this one! Games, fun, student design, creative critical thinking. Jon's website is FULL of information to get you started. This would be a great inclusion to any unit. Can't wait for a friend to try out some ideas soon! Follow Jon @jonathonspike on Twitter to follow his ideas on Game Design & Classroom fun creations.

SEL in Digital Life: Kara McFarlin & Jennifer Ehehart

CommonSense Media was a big part of this session. They focused on the amazing tools from K-12 on supporting students in some challenging situations. **My favorite part** - so you don't have TONS of extra time...no worries there are lessons that can easily be completed and support students in 15 MINUTES! Oh, and did I mention the supports built in! Great site, super teacher supportive...and family support. I would highly recommend the FREE resources from CommonSense (click the link...you'll love the support).

Everfi:

Can we mention another FREE & amazing tool? Everfi which started as a Financial Literacy/Wellness Company has built a platform to teach so many things! Their take on some tough issues for teens (vaping, alcohol, bullying) looks great. I also love the robust support of financial teaching. Who teaches students the "how-to" of a lot of financial literacy? While many people in their world can...it has also become a support that schools teach. Great resource - the K-4 Empathy units look amazing too.

Imagine, Iterate,Inspire @a_fenstermaker

My favorite word - well..... two of them! 1. Free. 2. Google Slides. Okay, so technically that is two words...but one idea. In this session I learned how to use a simple, common, & FREE tool Slides to work with animation. On top of learning the strategies...we took time to explore. Another fabulous nugget that came from this session were the ideas on how to implement in the classroom and elevate our students to creatorship. THIS is going to be amazing...and there could be some really great things for students....who's classroom will have me test it out first!??

IDEACon Day 2

Day 2: Daily Takeaways.

Media Literacy / Digital Citizenship / Tell Your Story / Amplify Your Voice

Admitttedly....my notes are not as great Day 2! I learned a ton....but keeping up with notes was more challenging than I thought.

Keynote Kat Cho: Author of YA books with Korean Main Characters. Kat had a powerful and moving keynote that discussed the importance of representation in literature and in the classroom.

Steve Wick, Presenter

Steve shared a lot of resources(link)! He has an amazing collection of all things Google & so much more. He shared his site with support and fun things to learn. My favorite takeaway was the link to "OK Go"'s website.(link) They have STEAM activities: lessons, teachers' supports and it's just really cool!

HTML : Skill Struck

I went to this because of the interest some stude

Day 3 : STEAM / Computer Science / Computer Literacy
