OPTION: Media Studies
GCSE - AQA
GCSE - AQA
Media Studies requires a creative, independent and resourceful individual that can research /develop their own ideas, and work to a deadline.
There needs to be a competent ability in written English as there will be lots of written analysis for different products with exam questions requiring good English comprehension.
Media Studies looks at the psychology and reasoning behind the creation of products and how these are designed to appeal to specific target audiences. There are close links to Business Studies, Design Technology, Computer Science and Art and Design.
We will explore different media products such as Television, Film, Magazines, Newspapers and Advertising looking at a range of media platforms such as the internet and social media.
There is a focus on Audience, Industries, Representation and Media Language.
If you want to know more about what we do, please come and speak to Mr Lea, Room 201.
I look forward to seeing you!

A choice of topics linked to a given Brief (changes each year).
Students to produce a media product for an intended audience.
Our course consists of a range of topics – CSPs (Close Study products) which we will be learning about. The exam will feature a range of questions around students’ understanding of our CSPs. This includes a response to a 20-mark question which requires them to give their opinion on statements, supported by factual knowledge. This requires a competency in English Language.
For their NEA, they will learn the language used in media production and be asked to design their own versions of specific products based on what they have learnt. They will be asked to follow a brief and will use digital design processes to produce a final piece of work.
