Component 1: Devising Theatre – Learners will be assessed on either acting or design. They will participate in the creation, development and performance of a piece of devised theatre using either the techniques of an influential theatre practitioner or a genre, in response to a stimulus set by WJEC. They will produce: a realisation of their piece of devised theatre; a portfolio of supporting evidence and an evaluation of the final performance or design.
Component 2: Performing from a Text – Learners participate in a performance based on two 10 minute extracts from a performance text of their own choice. They will be assessed on either acting or design. Learners work in groups of between two and four performers. Up to two additional learners, each working on a different design skill, may work with each performing group.
Component 3: Interpreting Theatre– A final exam worth 40% of the Learner’s final grade. The exam covers a play studied during the course and a theatre review of a production seen over their two years of study.
This course is 30% performance and reflection journaling, and 7.0% externally marked written exam. It is an excellent fit for students who enjoy theatre and film study and want to learn the mechanics of staging a full production. A range of classical and contemporary theatrical works is studied throughout, and it offers an opportunity to watch a variety of live theatre.
