GCSE - AQA
GCSE - AQA
Art and Design GCSE is a great platform for you to develop your creativity and individuality!
We use our projects to explore all areas of art and design, developing practical skills with a strong focus on analysis and art criticism. The course is guided, but individual independence is encouraged and you are in control of how your projects develop and in which direction.
We offer:
Lunch and after-school clubs.
After school intervention, catch up and development workshops.
Trips and gallery visits.
Saturday workshops with contemporary, practicing artists.
Access to specialist equipment/techniques, like batik, ceramics, printing and photography.
Come and speak to Mr Lea, Miss Dooley or Miss Nejo to discuss the course further or to come up and see examples of sketchbooks and final responses.
The Art Department is looking forward to meeting you!
Natural Forms Project - Throughout this project you will explore Photography, you will complete observational studies of Natural Forms, refine and revisit drawing skills and develop 3-Dimentional designs.
Portraits Project - This focuses on how you develop your work in relation to Artists such as Shepard Fairey (OBEY) and Arnauld Beauville. You will explore stencilling, montage, experimental techniques and Photoshop.
Part of the project this year was a workshop run by contemporary artist Mark Titchner - some examples of the work are shown below.
Externally Set Assignment - You will receive an exam paper from which you have to choose a project. You will create a sketchbook and develop your ideas, independently, and produce a final piece in a 10-hour practical exam.
This course is made up of two main units:
Controlled Assessment / Portfolio unit - This consists of 2 separate projects, which are marked holistically. This is 60% of your overall mark.
Externally set assignment - This is the “Exam unit” that culminates in a 10-hour practical exam. This is 40% of your final mark.
Everything you do in class and for homework is part of your overall mark.
