Welcome to Southside High School's science website. Our vision for Southside students is to provide an environment where students can learn and participate in laboratory activities that give them real-world experience with state-of-the-art equipment.

Megan Ardoin

Mrs. Ardoin has a Bachelor of Science degree with double majors in Biology and Chemistry and a minor in Psychology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career in the private school system for 6 years. There she taught a wide range of science classes including: Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, AP Biology, Environmental Science, and Health and PE. This is her second year at Southside High School teaching Biology. When asked about her teaching philosophy Mrs. Ardoin replied, “My educational philosophy is to guide students as they acquire knowledge by asking questions that inspire them to look deeper into the content. I hope to get students curious about the world around them, and help them become lifelong learners and scientists.”

Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Ardoin is more commonly known as “Coach Meg”. She is currently the head girls’ track coach and the assistant volleyball coach at Southside. In her previous volleyball coaching career, she was the head coach at Academy of the Sacred Heart- Grand Coteau for 6 years. There she was named District Coach of the Year for 5 years, made appearances in the state playoffs each season and in 2014 finished as state semi-finalist in Division V. She also coached club volleyball for Louisiana Volleyball for the last 2 years.



Stephanie Guidry

Mrs. Stephanie Guidry has been teaching and coaching for the Lafayette Parish School System for the past 16 years. She started her education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and completed a second bachelor degree in Secondary Science Education, both from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Mrs. Guidry began her teaching career at Ovey Comeaux High school during the 2003-2004 school year teaching Physical Science and serving as the assistant coach for the girl’s soccer team. The following school year she moved to Acadiana High and continued to teach Physical Science while coaching the swim team then later the golf team. Years later she expanded her classes to teach Chemistry and Biology II. She founded and chaired the AP/Honors department to bring both students and faculty together to attempt to further elevate the school’s test scores. While at AHS, Mrs. Guidry was honored as the Teacher of the Year in 2014 and has been a Lafayette Education Foundation teacher of the year nominee many times.

Mrs. Guidry is humbled to have been selected as part of the inaugural staff of Southside High School and has served as a leader to the science teachers as the Department Head. Mrs. Guidry also coaches the SHS golf team and serves on the school’s Leadership Team.


Jennifer Morrow

Mrs. Jennifer Morrow has been an educator with the Lafayette Parish School system for the past 20 years. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Secondary Science Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1998 and her “Teacher Leader” certification through the Louisiana Department of Education and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2007. Mrs. Morrow is also is also a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician and an instructor for the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Morrow began her teaching career in the Science Department at Lafayette High School in 1998. She taught Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science in the years prior to the implementation of the Academy of Health Careers in 2004. She served as Academy Co-Director from 2005-2011 and served as the program Director from 2011-2018 while teaching Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Health Occupations Senior Project, and Health Occupations Senior Internship. During her tenure at LHS, Mrs. Morrow coached the Varsity Cheerleading squad, advised the Science Club, HOSA Club, and Health Academy Student Council. She also served on numerous committees including the Crisis Response Team and the Principal’s Leadership Team.

Mrs. Morrow is honored to have been selected as the 2018-2019 Lafayette Parish “High School Teacher of the Year” as well as the 2018-2019 “Lafayette High School Teacher of the Year.” She was selected as Lafayette Parish Schools of Choice “Educator of the Year” in 2015 and has been nominated for LEF Teacher of the Year several times. Mrs. Morrow was recognized in 2010-2011 by the Knights of Columbus as “Heroine of the Year,” for “Meritorius Service” by Acadian Ambulance, and for the “Lifesaver Award” by the Woodmen of the World for her role in the successful resuscitation of a referee, through CPR, during a football game at LHS.

Mrs. Morrow is excited for the opportunity to contribute to the excellence at Southside High School by teaching Physical Science, sponsoring the HOSA Club and National Honor Society, as well as being a member of the Crisis Team.

Sara Mulligan

Mrs. Sara Mulligan has been teaching for 11 years in the Lafayette Parish School System. She received a Bachelors in Science in Chemistry with a concentration in secondary education from Louisiana State University in 2008.

Mrs. Mulligan starting teaching at Lafayette High School in August of 2008. Over ten years, she taught Physical Science and Chemistry. She was in charge of Young at Heart under the guidance of the Junior League of Lafayette for two years. She was co-department head for the science department, a member of the principal’s leadership team, and secretary for PBIS. She has been very active at LHS and with the parish in learning new technologies such as Promethean and TI calculators.

Mrs. Mulligan is very excited to be at Southside for the second year. She will be teaching Physical Science. She will be a co-sponsor for National Honor Society and a member of the graduation committee.


Jessica Rogers

Ms. Jessica Rogers has been teaching for the past eight years in St. Landry Parish at Beau Chene High School. She received a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Secondary Biology Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2010. In 2016 she returned to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and completed her Master’s Degree in Education, focusing on Curriculum and Instruction. Ms. Rogers is also a certified Instructional Coach, as well as an Advanced Placement Instructor.

During her eight years at Beau Chene High School Ms. Rogers taught Biology I, Biology II, and Advanced Placement Biology II. Additionally, she was an EOC Summer Remediation instructor and facilitator for the parish. She was a member of the school improvement team, and served for several years as a grade-level chairperson. During the 2015-2016 school year she was the recipient of the “Outstanding Teacher” award.

Ms. Rogers is honored to be a part of Southside High School. She is looking forward to an exciting school year, and contributing to the continued success.


Ginger Roy

Mrs. Ginger Roy was a pre-med major and earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2014. Upon graduation, she returned to the University to pursue a graduate degree in education. She was awarded a Masters of Arts in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and completed Alternative Certification as a teacher with endorsements for both Biology and Chemistry in 2016.

Prior to teaching, Mrs. Roy worked over fourteen years in the medical field as a Certified Optometric Assistant and Practice Manager. She began her teaching career at Poplarville High School in Poplarville, MS in 2014 where she taught for three years the following courses: Introduction to Biology, Biology I, and Physical Science. She moved to Lafayette the summer of 2017 and taught 8th Grade Science at Carencro Middle School for one year. She was most recently a Medical Office Assistant and Medical Billing and Coding Instructor at Remington College. Mrs. Roy is excited to become a member of the faculty at Southside High School.

Mrs. Roy is very excited to be joining the faculty at Southside High School and looks forward to diving into the new school year! She will be teaching Biology.


Cody Short

Mr. Cody Short has been teaching for the past 15 years in St. Landry Parish, St. Martin Parish, and Lafayette Parish. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1997 from UL and then began working as a Driftnet Fisheries Observer for the National Marine Fisheries Service out of Long Beach, California. He then moved to Reno, Nevada to work as a Biological Technician for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agency, performing a variety of tasks. Soon after his time in Reno, Mr. Short returned to work as a Fisheries Observer in California. He then returned home to Louisiana and conducted research for LSU at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) in Cocodrie, Louisiana for a year.

Mr. Short then began his teaching career at Sunset Elementary teaching Math. At the same time, he went back to UL and obtained his Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2003. During that time he also taught Mathematics at East Junior High School in Opelousas and Physical Science at Comeaux High School. He was hired at St. Martinville Senior High School in 2004 and remained there, teaching Environment Science and Biology and sponsoring the Science Club, until 2011 when he transferred to Carencro High School for a year. The following year he returned to St. Martinville Senior High School to teach Biology and Chemistry. He remained there, sponsoring the Interact Club and the Quiz Bowl Team, and serving on the PBIS Committee, until 2018 when he was invited to join the faculty at Southside High School as a Biology Teacher and happily accepted. Being asked to join the incredible teaching staff at Southside and become part of their amazing Science Department was a truly humbling experience for him.

This will be Mr. Short’s second year at Southside High and he is excited to see what the new school year will bring. He is also happy to announce that he will sponsor the first ever Quiz Bowl Team at Southside High this year and looks forward to competing with his new team.


Mike Stelly

Mr. Stelly teaches Physical Science and Environmental Science. He is also the Southside Wrestling team coach.

Stacy Thibodeaux

Mrs. Stacy Thibodeaux has been teaching for the Lafayette Parish School System for the past 18 years. She started her education with a Bachelor of Science degree with double majors in Biology and Chemistry and completed her Alternative Certification in Secondary Science Education, both from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In 2014 she completed a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from UL Lafayette.

Mrs. Thibodeaux began her teaching career at Lafayette High School during the 2000 school year teaching Physical Science, Environmental Science, and Chemistry serving as the Junior Varsity Cheerleader Sponsor. In 2004, she established the Lafayette High School Academy of Health Careers, where she taught Health Science I, II, Forensic Science, and Pathophysiology, and served as the director of the program until 2010. In 2011, she moved to David Thibodeaux STEM Magnet Academy and instituted to develop the Biomedical Sciences program, and taught Project Lead the Way Human Body Systems, Medical Interventions, and Biomedical Innovations. She also taught Anatomy and Physiology (dual enrolled with SLCC), Biology II AP and Chemistry II AP.

She was honored at LHS at Teacher of the Year in 2008 and has been a Lafayette Education Foundation teacher of the year nominee and multiple grants awardee totaling over $15,000. She was selected as the 1st Lafayette Parish Schools of Choice “Educator of the Year” in 2005.

Mrs. Thibodeaux is a certified Texas Instruments National Instructor, where she serves on the Leadership Advisory Council as the Science Representative. She presents national teacher professional development and national conference sessions on best practices in the science classroom and technology integration. She also serves on the LPSS district team to develop curriculum and present professional development to the teachers of Lafayette Parish.

Mrs. Thib (what the students call her) is humbled to have been selected as part of the inaugural staff of Southside High School. She is also the STEM club sponsor.
