Chemistry II DE (dual enrollment) will fulfill a science requirement for any college major. Chemistry I concepts will be expanded upon while continuing laboratory experiments and skills that will assist all students to have a solid science background before enrolling in a university. In this course students will have an opportunity to work on solutions to chemical problems, to think critically and analytically, to identify experimental questions, and to design experiments to answer those questions.
Chemistry II is dual enrolled through LSU Baton Rouge. Students will take Chemistry II DE as a high school course as well as CHEM 1201 in the Fall semester and CHEM 1202 in the Spring semester. Students are expected to have a strong background in mathematics since Chemistry II involves numerical problem solving and word problem analysis both in the content course and the laboratory. The goal of Chemistry II DE is to provide the student a foundation of knowledge on which to rationalize, summarize and predict the structure and properties of materials that make up chemistry. The course is lab-oriented with special emphasis on quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis. Students are encouraged to think independently and become an active part of the learning process. Students work homework problems for the class; this initiates discussion, questions, and awareness that various methods can be used for problem solving.
Course prerequisites: This course is open to seniors only. Must have completed Chemistry I and Algebra II. Students must meet LSU requirements in order to be dual enrolled. See your counselor for more information.
