The purpose of the course is to raise the level of environmental knowledge among the students. Scientific principles are used to study the processes of the environment in order to understand the environment and the problems associated with it, some basic chemistry must be understood. The structure of matter and how it functions is required knowledge. During the first semester, students will gain an understanding of ecological and biological organization. Next, students will learn about the dynamics of an ecosystem. A special unit called “Louisiana Wild” enables students to appreciate the uniqueness and importance of Louisiana Wetlands. The second semester deals with the many forms of pollution and what has to be done to solve our problems within our biosphere. From this course, students should gain a better understanding of the human struggle and a greater appreciation of our existence here on Earth.
