Chemistry is the study of composition properties and behavior of matter. Chemistry is a lab based class. Chemistry is heavily math based. Student need good math skills to be successful in Chemistry. It is required that Chemistry honor students have taken or are taking Algebra II honors. If a student does not meet these math requirements please see the Chemistry teacher immediately.
One of the main goals of this course is to learn problem-solving techniques, which are important and useful throughout your life. In chemistry we use observation, sifting facts, logic, and trial and error to come up with answers. These are important skills that can be used in any life situation.
Honors Chemistry students will be prepared to take Chemistry II.
Chemistry is a course designed to introduce the basic principles of chemistry through laboratory and classroom experiences. First semester topics to be covered are measurements, atomic structure, bonding, formulas, and chemical equations. Second semester topics are stoichiometry, behavior of gases, solutions, acids and bases, and general organic chemistry. All college-prep students should take Chemistry I. Students enrolled in chemistry must have passed or be enrolled in Algebra II.
