This region is made up of Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Louisiana. This region is located near the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Its soil is great for farming. The Cherokee, Creek, and Seminole Indians lived in this region. This region had mild winters and very warm summers.
Shelter
Native Americans living in this area lived in houses called daubs and wattles. The houses were built from wood frames. The roof of the houses were made from grasses and bark. They were small houses.
Food
Native Americans in this region hunted deer, squirrels, beavers, rabbits and turkeys for food. They also grew crops, such as, corn, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and squash.
Clothing
Native Americans living in this region wore light weight clothing. It was made from deer skin, sheep wool and cotton. Women wore skirts or dresses. Men did not wear shirts during the summer months. They wore breech cloths. Many of these Indians wore bright colored clothes.
