This region is made up by the states Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. It is located on the northwest coast of the United States which is along the Pacific Ocean. The land is not good for farming because it is rocky. It is warm during the summer and cold in the winter. A group of Native Americans which lived in this region was the Kwakiutl.
Shelter
Native Americans living in this region lived in houses made from cedar wood. They were called longhouses. They were very large. A family of 50 people could live in these houses.
Food
Native Americans in this region lived along the Pacific coast. Most of their food came from the ocean, rivers and streams. Many of the people in this area were fishermen who caught fish for food. Their main food was salmon. They also hunted in the forests for deer, squirrels and otters. Seaweed, plants and berries were also eaten.
Clothing
Native Americans living in this region did not wear a lot of clothing. However, since many cedar trees were growing in this region, cedar bark was used to make clothing. For example, during the winter, women wore skirts made from cedar bark and men wore long coats made from it.
