SUGGESTED PRACTICE
Play the game Battleship (coordinate planes)
Have a sibling, parent, friend, write a 12-digit number and you try to read the number out loud
Practice multiplication fact fluency
READING
I can read on grade level with few mistakes
I can identify the main idea of a story and summarize what I read
I can compare and contrast two texts on the same subject
SUGGESTED PRACTICE
Independent reading for 20+ minutes a day
Retell or keep a journal of what you read each day- focus on a specific aspect of the reading (author's purpose, compare/contrast, main ideas/details...)
Read to siblings or other relatives and ask them questions about what they heard
Read both fiction and non-fiction on the same subject (ex. two texts on basketball= History of Basketball (non-fiction) + Dan Gutman's Million Dollar Shot (fiction)
Keep a reading log to track pages read or minutes read- set weekly and monthly goals
Have a parent join GoodReads (must be 13+ to post reviews) or Biblionasium (safe alternative for kids) and post a book review you write together
