5th Grade Band

Welcome to 5th Grade Band!!

Here at Loomis Union School District, we are very fortunate to be able to provide beginning band to all 5th and 6th grader students as a continuation of the general music classes they have enjoyed throughout their elementary experience. Beginning in 5th grade, all students will learn to play a band instrument with a focus on music literacy, social-emotional development, teamwork, and ensemble/ individual performance.   Each band class will begin the year from page one of our book. No experience is necessary for this class and all skills, including music reading, how to assemble and care for the instrument, how to play their chosen instrument, and general music theory, will be taught in class over the course of the year.

5th grade Band will meet each week for two 45 minute classes for the entire year. Each student will focus on a single instrument, and may choose from Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, or Baritone. Families are expected to rent or purchase an instrument, book (specifics listed under "required supplies"), and instrument-specific supplies. District instruments are available for families who are not able to provide an instrument, but we have a very limited number of available instruments and we kindly ask that families who are unable to provide and instrument for their child request district instruments. Please use the links on the left to find information about instrument purchase/rental and required supplies.

Expectations:

Students are expected to arrive at class each day with their instrument, book/music, and instrument-specific supplies. Full participation, both individually and as a part of the team, are expected each day and are a part of your child's grade.
