"I speak like this... I sing like this..."
~ Jump frog, jump! - a fun way to activate our singing voices and play a little catch
Do this as many times as you like while stirring the pond (floor or table) as many different ways as you can. Stir with 1 finger or more. Stir with 1 hand or 2. Can you stir with your...elbow? How about your foot? Or, our class favorite, your head!
"You Hoo ____". "You Hoo Ms. Kasper"
This is high, high, high! This is low, low, low.
This fast, fast, fast! This is slow, slow, slow.
This is gentle, gentle, gentle. This is strong, strong, strong!
This is wait, wait, wait. This is.... Let go!
Spooky ghost and owl sounds!
I roll my pumpkin to each child and sing "Roll, pumpkin!" They roll it back and sing the phrase as a response Mi-Re-Do
Moving to different musical excerpts/styles
When we get good at this one we'll add a parachute!
Show us how you hammer! How do you saw wood?
C
You get a hammer and I'll get a nail; You catch a bird and I'll catch a snail;
You bring a board and I'll bring a saw And we'll build a house for the ba-by-o
CHORUS:
C G7
Bling blang, ham-mer with my ham-mer. Zingo zango cutting with my saw. (repeat)
I'll grab some mud and you grab some clay So when it rains it won't wash away.
We'll build a house that'll be so strong. The winds will sing my baby a song.
CHORUS
Run bring rocks and I'll bring bricks. A nice pretty house we'll build and fix
We'll jump inside when the cold wind blows And kiss our pretty little baby-o.
CHORUS
You bring a ladder and I'll get a box. Build our house out of bricks and blocks.
When the snowbird flies and the honeybee comes We'll feed our baby on honey in the comb
CHORUS
The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything!
PreK focuses on "Snowflake" and a little poem about a chubby snowman but I try to introduce them to all of the songs we sing all together as a school.
I don't think we'll be able to gather as a school community for a regular performance but you can check out everything that goes into this program in the slides to the right. There are links to all of the recordings/videos I could find.
We explore tempos, timbres, and dynamics
I roll my pumpkin to each child and sing "Roll, pumpkin!" They roll it back and sing the phrase as a response

Can we follow the shape of the strings with our voices?
We like to pop up every time we sing "Yes, ma'am"
These two versions of the song are not exactly the same. I wonder if we can come up with some other things for Cousin Peter to do when he comes to our house?
Before we learn the song we'll use shaker eggs to make the sounds for our choo-choo as we snake around the room. When the whistle blows we'll freeze!
We'll use our rhythm sticks to keep a steady beat to this nursery rhyme at various tempos
Exploring movement with this beautiful song in a minor key.,
We'll explore the Eric Carl classic and then use finger puppets to create our own version of the song. Later we'll use the song to sing to our friends around the circle.
Just getting our bodies moving...
Give a cheer today, Give a cheer today
Give a cheer 'cause ________________ here, Give a cheer today
"Kitty Alone" is a lullabye with a lovely melody that is quite mesmerizing...
Echo each line of the song and have fun with your face and voice!
What can we put in our soup today? Well, today we are making vegetable soup but once you learn the chant and the motions, you can make any kind of silly soup you want! Fruit soup? Pizza soup? Outside soup? (the ingredients for this can be dirt, rocks, sticks...). Have fun chopping!
