Practice Requirements

"The wise musicians are those who play what they can master.” – Duke Ellington

It is very important that students practice their instruments for at least 20-25 minutes every day! This time is to be used to review playing material that was covered in their class and to prepare for their weekly rehearsals. For beginning musicians, this is crucial because learning something new is difficult, but the more your students practice getting a sound on their instrument and reading music, the easier it will be and it will become second nature.

Occasionally, students will have a worksheet that goes along with their practicing. Students will have 1 week to complete it and are expected to hand it in the following week during their band class, which will also be counted as a quiz grade. The worksheets are there to help the students learn the basic fundamentals of music theory and will help their ability to read music on their instrument.

Students should find a quiet space at home to sit down and practice. If practicing at home is not possible, students can come to the band room before school, after school, and during the WIN period and utilize the room or one of the practice rooms. Please check the schedule tab for times and days available for extra practice/help with Ms. Gomez.
