My name is Jasmine Gomez, and I'm the Band Director at Long Branch Middle School. This upcoming school year will be my 11th year in the district, and my 4th year here at the middle school! As the instrumental program continues to grow, after-school ensembles will be created and open to all students who wish to participate! In 2023, the Green Wave Jazz Band was born, and in spring 2025, the Contra Wave Ensemble made its first appearance in competition for Music in the Parks! So many amazing things have happened in the music program in the last 3 years, and I'm looking forward to continuing the journey this year!
As a proud alumna of Long Branch (class of 2009), I was thrilled to begin my teaching career as a substitute teacher in 2013. I have taught long-term music positions in other districts like Piscataway and Lakewood. I have also worked as an Instructional Assistant at the Morris Ave School from 2015-2017. From 2017 to 2022, I taught elementary band grades 3 through 5 at the George L. Catrambone Elementary School.
Outside the classroom, I was the Assistant Marching Band Director for Red Bank Regional HS and Point Pleasant Beach HS. I'm happy to be the Assistant Band Director for the band where my love for music grew as a student, Long Branch High School's Spirit of the Green Wave Marching Band. I also served as the high school's stage manager for the Westwood Players Ensemble (drama club); another role I've worked in as a student during my time at LBHS!
I attended Seton Hall University from 2009 to 2017, earning my bachelor's degree in Secondary Education/Music Education and my master's degree in Instructional Design and Technology. I was fortunate enough to be one of the founding members of the Seton Hall Chamber Orchestra in 2009, under the direction of Professor Murray Colosimo.
My musical journey on flute began in 3rd grade at West End School. I still play regularly as a proud member of the Atlantic Wind Ensemble from Spring Lake, the Ocean Grove Summer Band from Ocean Grove, and the Toms River Municipal Band from Toms River. Along with the flute, I also double on the clarinet and saxophone in community theater productions throughout the Monmouth and Ocean County areas. From 2009 to 2014, I worked as the stage manager and other various technician roles for theater productions at local community theaters in Deal, Spring Lake, Red Bank, Toms River, Piscataway, and Manasquan. In April 2024, I returned to the community theater world and have worked on 3 productions since!
In my free time, I enjoy taking trips to NYC to see Broadway plays and musicals, seeing many music artists and bands in concert, playing beach volleyball, and playing my flute, of course! I have two lovable cats: Chloe and Stevie, and my newest fur-angel who I lost in May 2025, Bella. I love to watch movies, especially musical-themed movies. Law & Order: SVU is my top favorite TV show, mainly for my hero Mariska Hargitay. I'm looking forward to continuing my journey here with the LBPS family this year at the middle school!
