"We believe in an equitable grading system that communicates a students’ progression toward the mastery of grade level state standards." ---LISD Grading Belief
Lockhart ISD is committed to an educational program which recognizes the unique value, needs, and talents of the individual student. Identifying students with significantly advanced general intellectual ability, creative or artistic talents, and/or those who demonstrate advanced leadership capabilities constitutes and integral part of this commitment.
The GT program in Lockhart ISD is designed for students who are capable and ready to learn at the levels of depth and complexity necessary to master the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills at their appropriate and advanced grade levels.
The guiding characteristic is the provision of differentiated and independent studies which meet both cognitive and effective needs.
The ultimate goal of the program is to provide experiences whereby the students will be challenged academically, socially, and emotionally to achieve their greatest potential to manage change and to have a sense of responsibility for self, school, community, and society.
Lockhart ISD offers a full continuum of services to address the academic and behavioral needs for students served through special education.
The purpose of Response to Intervention (RtI) is to participate in a team collaboration to address the needs of all levels of learners. The RtI process accomplishes this by using a strategic process for identifying the concern(s) and determining appropriate interventions/enrichments with the goal of a positive solution for the student and the teacher. The RtI process begins with high quality classroom (Tier 1) instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classrooms. Interventions/Enrichments should be systematic, regular, routinely monitored, and immediate.
Each elementary campus has a lead RtI Teacher that helps with this process and joins in weekly PLC meetings to help with data monitoring and tutoring.
Dyslexia is an unexpected difficulty in reading in relation to other cognitive abilities. Students with dyslexia struggle with reading fluency and spelling, among other challenges. These difficulties have no connection to overall intelligence and typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language.
The Lockhart ISD dyslexia program is designed to provide high quality reading support for students identified with dyslexia. Through a structured reading program, students with dyslexia learn skills and strategies to “unlock” the code of reading to improve reading fluency and writing.
Services are offered to qualifying students. The 504 referral process can be started when the campus support team suspects that a student is displaying characteristics of dyslexia. Parents may also refer a student for an evaluation at any time.

The mission of the Lockhart ISD Elementary Libraries is to provide a future ready library media program which will facilitate a collaborative learning space that will enable individuals to become information literate and effective lifelong readers. Students will actively engage in inquiry and discovery-based projects across curriculums. We aim to provide teachers access to a variety of sources for implementation to enhance curriculum and deliver innovative lessons with the guidance and collaboration of the Library Media Specialist.
As the hub of the school, the Lockhart ISD Elementary Libraries will be a welcoming environment for all students, teachers, family and community members.
LISD Elementary Lions hit the high notes in Music with our music teachers!
Students use critical thinking skills and creative expression as we
sing
dance
play instruments
and discover other cultures through music.
Each campus holds musicals and art exhibits throughout the year. Students perform at the local Dickens Christmas Annual Event held on the beautiful square in our town the first Saturday of December.
Whether in Kindergarten or 5th grade, students make authentic cross-curricular connections as we grow in music literacy together, building a solid foundation for Junior High and High School fine arts programs and a lifetime of music enjoyment.
LISD Elementary Physical Education Department strives to educate the “whole” student by having students participate in activities that offer physical, mental, social and emotional growth. Our goal is to instill within our students the desire to pursue a lifetime of being physically active and making healthy decisions.
Some activities held at the campuses include:
Field Day
Walk to School Day
Jump Rope for Heart
