Advancing Research and Inclusion: LNUβCTERTI Approves Its First Internally Funded Projects
Leyte Normal University (LNU) has taken a significant step in strengthening its research culture with the formal approval of its first internally funded research projects through the Center for Teacher Education Research, Technologies & Innovations (CTERTI). This milestone underscores the Universityβs growing commitment to knowledge generation, educational innovation, and inclusive development.
The approval was institutionalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony held on January 15, 2026. The ceremony was led by LNU President Dr. Gil Nicetas B. Villarino, who signed the MOA alongside the project proponents. The event was witnessed by Executive Director for Research and Innovation Dr. Myra Abayon and CTERTI Director Mr. Michael Dell A. Tuazon, highlighting the collective support of the Universityβs research leadership.
Two faculty-led research initiatives were granted institutional funding under this pioneering effort. The first, β4D Learning Module in Understanding to Nurture Growth on Humanitarian Awareness and Welfare (4D LUNGHAW Project)β, is headed by Prof. Reynerio Mendoza. The project focuses on the development of an innovative learning module designed to cultivate humanitarian awareness and social responsibility among learners through a multidimensional and reflective educational framework.
The second initiative, βProject Tambay: Molding Job-Sensitive Curriculum for the Out-of-School Youthβ, is led by Prof. Debby Turco and Prof. Aiko Amago. This research seeks to address issues of educational access and employability by crafting a curriculum that is responsive to labor market demands and tailored to the unique needs of out-of-school youth, thereby promoting inclusive education and community empowerment.
As the first set of institutionally funded projects since the establishment of CTERTI, these initiatives represent more than individual research undertakings. They signal a strengthened institutional framework that supports faculty scholarship and positions research as a central pillar of LNUβs academic mission. Through CTERTI, the University continues to foster an environment where research, innovation, and social relevance converge to contribute meaningfully to educational and societal advancement.
