A HISTORIC FIRST OF LEYTE NORMAL UNIVERSITY
Leyte Normal University proudly congratulates Dr. Las Johansen B. Caluza on his recognition as a Regular Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), Division VII – Engineering and Industrial Research.
This prestigious distinction marks a significant achievement not only for Dr. Caluza but also for the entire LNU academic community. Regular Membership in the NRCP is granted to Filipino researchers, scientists, and scholars who demonstrate an exceptional and sustained record of scholarly productivity, research excellence, and meaningful contributions to national development. It is a status earned through rigorous evaluation, distinguished research outputs, and endorsement by current Regular Members of the Council.
Reflecting on this milestone, Dr. Caluza shared:
“My journey toward becoming a Regular Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines has been neither immediate nor incidental. It represents years of sustained scholarly engagement, disciplined inquiry, and deliberate cultivation of expertise across the intertwined domains of research, extension, and instruction. The path demanded intellectual rigor, professional resilience, and a steadfast commitment to advancing knowledge within my field.”
He further emphasized the significance of being endorsed by respected scholars within the Council:
“To be endorsed by existing Regular Members—colleagues whose scholarly identities I may not personally know, yet whose academic standards I deeply respect—is, in itself, a profound honor. Such endorsement signifies not merely procedural approval but recognition of one’s scholarly contributions and alignment with the Council’s standards of excellence.”
For Dr. Caluza, this recognition embodies both honor and responsibility:
“For me, this recognition carries both privilege and responsibility: the privilege of belonging to a distinguished body of scholars, and the responsibility to further strengthen the integrity, impact, and relevance of my academic work.”
Notably, Dr. Caluza is the first Regular Member of the NRCP from Leyte Normal University, making this achievement a historic first for the institution.
This milestone reflects LNU’s unwavering commitment to research excellence, innovation, and national development. Dr. Caluza’s accomplishment stands as an inspiration to faculty, researchers, and students to pursue scholarship with rigor, resilience, and purpose.
Once again, congratulations, Dr. Caluza! Your LNU family is immensely proud of you.
