Program Protocols and Expectations
Attendance
►Student-athletes are expected to attend (with weather appropriate gear) in a timely manner, all training and competitions for which they are scheduled.
►If arriving late to training please arrive with an appropriate note; otherwise the tardiness will be unexcused.
►If there is a reason for early departure from training or a meet, advanced notice to the coaching staff is expected.
►Student athletes must physically participate in all practices and competitions unless directed otherwise by a coach/trainer or a note from a doctor or guardian.
►Attendance (tardiness, absence, and completion of training) is a factor in determining team squads and eligibility for competitions.
►Absences, tardiness, and early departure may result in suspension from competitions and may forfeit eligibility to participate.
►At the discretion of the coaches, unexcused session absences or tardiness may result in dismissal from the team.
Academic Improvement Plan
●Academic habits/circumstances that earn an Academic Improvement Plan (A.I.P.) for a track & field student-athlete includes two criteria, either:
A) 3 or more classes during a week on the Eligibility Watch List, OR
B) 2 or more classes for 2 consecutive weeks on the Eligibility Watch List.
When a member of the track & field team is on A.I.P. an email shall be sent in support of and guidance to improve academically.
●When a student qualifies for a track & field Academic Improvement Plan, it means that they shall have more time for academics and less for extracurriculars/athletics: no training nor competitions during that Eligibility Watch List window/week (Friday afternoon through the following Thursday). The Plan is in effect for a full week, a team member's status for rejoining the team can change the following Friday, not before.
●The LMHS Athletic and Activities Office publishes its Eligibility Watch List every Friday.
●When a student-athlete is on the Eligibility Watch List (for any number of classes), the coaching staff will connect with the student about academic performance and encourage them to improve.
Communication
►If there is a situation that can impact the team and/or coaches' decisions and responsibilities, it is expected that student-athletes's will take the initiative to advocate for themselves by communicating with coaches.
►If there is an unexpected absence by a member of the team a parent/guardian can expect a coach to follow-up with them.
►Student-athlete: name, image, and likeness will be published and communicated through media platforms to share team and/or individual activities, status, and progress.
Guide to Navigating Issues/Concerns/Conflicts
●If there is a question about coaching decisions, conduct, concerns with school, or anything regarding LM Indoor Track & Field, the student-athlete should:
Schedule an individual meeting with the coach at an appropriate time.
If questions or disputes still stand after that meeting, the player with a parent/guardian can then schedule a meeting with the coach at an appropriate time.
If issues/disputes continue:
A meeting with all involved parties can meet with the coach and athletic director at an appropriate time.
