Attendance
►Student-athletes are expected to attend all early-season (August) and subsequent seasonal training/practice sessions; those who have qualified for the post-season are expected to attend all post-season sessions as well. [NOTES: A.) Student-athletes new to LMSD may join the team during the first eight days of class; there may be exceptions to this as we have to consider wellness and fitness. B.) Fall sport transfers may join the team during the first eight calendar days of fall sports season at the discretion of the coaching staff: attendance records and conference with transfer-out sport coach may be considered.]
►Student-athletes are expected to attend (with weather appropriate gear) in a timely manner, all training and competitions for which they are scheduled.
►If arriving late to training please arrive with an appropriate note; otherwise the tardiness will be unexcused.
►Student athletes are to physically participate in all training sessions and competitions unless directed otherwise by a coach/trainer or a note from a doctor (as patient-doctor relationship).
►Attendance (tardiness and absence) is a factor in determining team squads and eligibility for competitions.
►Absences and tardiness may result in suspension from competitions and may forfeit eligibility to participate.
►At the discretion of the coaches, unexcused session absences or tardiness may result in dismissal from the team.
Expectations
►Student-athletes are encouraged (not required) to follow the Pre-Season Summer Training Guide (mid-June through the beginning of August).
►Student-athletes are to stay in the training/practice area(s); do not leave the indicated areas without a coach's permission.
►Wear shirts during LMHS Cross Country activity while on and near campus.
►Mobile and media devices are prohibited during warm-up and in competition areas at meets.
►If something is a physical bother, pain, or injury, any student-athlete is to meet with, then be evaluated by our athletic training staff. Communicate with a coach when you experience any of those feelings.
►All team members will be at pre/post meet huddles and perform a proper warm-up/cool-down with teammates.
►Meet rostering decisions are based on several factors and at the discretion of the coaching staff: personal bests, entry limits, teamwork, sportsmanship, progressive improvement, etc.
►The standard for making the team for any returner is a 3k time of 14:55 (that is maintaining a 7:59 mile pace). There is no standard for incoming 8th-->9th graders.
Academic Improvement Plan
●Academic habits/circumstances that earn an Academic Improvement Plan (A.I.P.) for a cross country student-athlete includes two criteria, either:
A) 3 or more classes during a week on the Eligibility Watch List, OR
B) 2 or more classes for 2 consecutive weeks on the Eligibility Watch List.
When a member of the track & field team is on A.I.P. an email shall be sent in support of and guidance to improve academically.
●When a student qualifies for a track & field Academic Improvement Plan, it means that they shall have more time for academics and less for extracurriculars/athletics: no training nor competitions during that Eligibility Watch List window/week (Friday afternoon through the following Thursday). The Plan is in effect for a full week, a team member's status for rejoining the team can change the following Friday, not before.
●The LMHS Athletic and Activities Office publishes its Eligibility Watch List every Friday.
●When a student-athlete is on the Eligibility Watch List (for any number of classes), the coaching staff will connect with the student about academic performance and encourage them to improve.
Team Squads/Organization
●Expect that our team will be organized into squads so we can strengthen relationships as training partners among ourselves.
●Squad assignment is at the discretion of the coaching staff and is generally based in how a member of the team: contributes to team culture; lives team norms; expresses decisions based on team mission, vision, values, and goals; adheres to team policies; as well as time/speed performance. To be clear, if someone is the fastest or is among the fastest (time/speed performance), they may be on any of the squads.
Communication
●If there is a situation that can impact the team and/or coaches' decisions and responsibilities, it is expected that student-athletes's will take the initiative to advocate for themselves by communicating with coaches.
●If there is an unexpected absence by a member of the team a parent/guardian can expect a coach to follow-up with them.
●Student-athlete: name, image, and likeness will be published and communicated through media platforms to share team and/or individual activities, status, and progress.

Hazing and Harassment
●We interact with teammates in supportive, positive, and meaningful manners to strengthen our relationships; misconduct shall be discussed and can result in suspension and additional consequence.
a) Hazing experiences put some members of the team in positions of power over others, degrading and/or humiliating, which erodes trust and respect as well as reducing individual self-confidence; ultimately, hazing is a form of abuse. Hazing behaviors may violate the law, LMSD policies, and is a violation of SafeSport Code.
b) Harassment occurs when someone targets another to scare, humiliate, or offend them; intending or likely degrade the individual creating hostility. It is usually repeated behavior, but can also be a single, severe incident. Consequently, behaving in such a manner can create a hostile environment that limits someone's ability to participate in sport. It can be an attempt to establish power over someone because of their age, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, national origin, or disability.
c) Every student-athlete is responsible for positively supporting our team climate in all of our environments.
Guide to Navigating Issues/Concerns/Conflicts
●If there is a question about coaching decisions, conduct, concerns with school, or anything regarding LM Cross Country, the student-athlete should:
Schedule an individual meeting with the coach at an appropriate time.
If questions or disputes still stand after that meeting, the player with a parent/guardian can then schedule a meeting with the coach at an appropriate time.
If issues/disputes continue:
A meeting with all involved parties can meet with the coach and athletic director at an appropriate time.
