Artist Statement:
I have always had a passion for defending what is right, and as I have gotten older, the cruelties that plague our society have become drastically more apparent to me. For this reason, my sustained investigation is focused on social justice. I first began with the question, how can art be designed to communicate a message in an impactful way?
Growing up outside of Philly, a city renowned for its murals, the impactful messages in many street artists work really stuck with me. Street art has an ability to provoke change in a uniquely raw and moving way. For my sustained investigation, I wanted to delve into this idea.
Because I wanted to explore the design of street art, the materials I've chosen to work with were initially pretty new to me. Before this year, I had only used spray paint in two other projects, so there is a fair amount of experimentation throughout my pieces. I've tried different color schemes and combinations/thicknesses of paint to add dimension and variation to my artwork.
