Artist Statement
It all started with wanting to create art that has meaning and purpose. I believe that when a piece of work has a purpose and a message it touches the viewer in a more personal way, creating a deeper connection between the artist and the viewer. The idea of feminism and women empowerment came from a music video by Miley Cyrus called “Mothers Daughter”. The video pulled me in and just watching it made me feel empowered and proud to be a young woman. I wanted my viewers to see my art and feel empowered just as I did when I watched the video. This led me to my essential question “How can I use portrait photography to empower women?” To capture the eye of my viewer and to create different vibes for each project I focused on a different main color.
