Extracurricular Activities Committee

Purpose:

Extra-curricular activities (ECA) are activities that take place outside regular class teaching and yet are related to student learning. As such, they fall within the scope of the college curriculum. ECA takes care of the students’ different developmental needs such as their sense of moral values and attitudes, skills and creativity.

Scope:

Through their participation in ECA, students can learn to communicate, to co-operate with other people and in addition to enrich their life experience. If students are given the opportunities to organize ECA, they will gain first-hand experience of programme planning and leadership, thus enabling them to discover and develop their potential.

Responsibility:

ECA coordinator is responsible for organizing the ECA of the college, helping to arrange and to coordinate inter-class activities. ECA coordinator participates in the setting up of goals, directions and policies for the implementation of ECA. The ECA coordinator also guides students towards proper concepts and encourages them to participate in the activities. ECA committee should organize

1) College days festival

2) Sports week

3) Blood donation camp

4) Thalassemia testing camp

5) Eye checkup camp

Accountability:

The ECA co-ordinator is responsible for recruiting the necessary personnel for the implementation of ECA. ECA Coordinator should understand the strengths, interests and abilities of his/her fellow colleagues with a view to suggesting to the college principal the distribution of work for ECA. He/she should also pay attention to the performance of the teachers-in-charge with a view to providing them with assistance and encouragement.

LMCP NSS Unit:

Extracurricular activities committee handles NSS activities at our college.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. It aimed at developing student's personality through community service; NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community (esp. Villages) linkage.

It is said that social service is done to serve the people but the main aim behind it is to gain the inner peace and to fulfill one's spiritual satisfaction. LMCP NSS with 50 volunteers affiliated in Gujarat Technological University started with the aim of fulfilling the needs of the society with the help of social service and health care activitites. LMCP NSS started with an aim to develop leadership and managerial skills among the Pharmacy students. In this, they learn the importance of team work and showcase their inner creativity by organizing various social events. Motto of NSS - Not Me But You. The motto itself gives the idea about its work and aim.

Its activities around the whole year which includes tree plantation, bone marrow drive, blood donation camp, thalassemia drive, eye checkup camp, Swachhta Abhiyan, Joy of Giving: Donation of unused items, Water pots and nests for birds in summer, Shramdaan Camp- Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, Celebrating International Yoga Day, Organising debates, elocution, poetry competition, extempore and related student skill development activities, Celebration of National festivals with themes to invoke and boost patriotism in youth, Women Empowerment related seminars and on field work

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

· understand the community in which they work

· understand themselves in relation to their community

· identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving

· develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility

· utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems

· develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities

· gain skills in mobilising community participation

· acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes

· develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and

· practise national integration and social harmony

Motto:

The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students’ development & appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

Ø Sports committee:

This Committee comes under extracurricular activities committee.

Purpose:

To promote and improve physical fitness in students and to motivate them to participate at district, state and national level in various sports competitions. To build students interpersonal skills through indoor and outdoor sports activities/competitions.

Scope:

Sports as a career, gives lots of fame and money. Career in any sports field depending on what sportstaken up depend upon expertise. Various sports fields are Cricket, Badminton, Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Boxing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Table Tennis, Wrestling, Cycling, etc.

Responsibility:

· Ensure the safe opening and closure of the centre.

· Respond to any emergencies in accordance to our procedures.

· Address any behaviour or sports related issues immediately.

· Ensure the smooth operation of the sports centre.

· Physical Director / Sport Incharge is responsible and is the only one authorised for the sports centre.

· Purchase of sports equipment’s and kits.

· Arrange annual sport week in college for students and faculty.

· Any damage or deficiency is to beplease report to the Sports Centre Incharge / Physical Director

Ø Red Ribbon Club

This Committee comes under extracurricular activities committee.

Purpose:

Educate youth with correct, concise and adequate information and heighten their level of awareness about HIV/AIDS and other health-related issues, thus eliminating the myths and misconceptions.

Scope:

Red Ribbon is a globally recognized symbol for HIV/AIDS awareness. Establishment of Red Ribbon Club is an important initiative undertaken by the Government of India not only to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and associated myths among the youth, but also to enhance social service and human values in them.

Responsibility:

· To create among the youth a cadre of peer educators for spreading awareness about HIV-AIDS and its prevention in the community.

· To inculcate the human values in the students by motivating them for blood donation.

· To arrange health check up camps, like thalassemia testing and creating awareness therby.

· Enable youth to identify and understand situations of exploitation and abuse.

· Sensitize the youth regarding care and support needs of people affected with HIV AIDS and instill in them the spirit to reduce the stigma and discrimination against them.
