SOC101/102 Integrated WA/US History
Grade: 8
Length: 1 Year
Credits: .25 credits per semester
Prerequisite: None
In this year-long course, students will explore Washington State’s place within United States History. A heavy emphasis on primary sources will allow students to connect to the time period and practice being historians. Historical thinking skills are stressed as students question, research, evaluate, argue, present, and take action. With this in mind, students will dive into the following subjects regionally as well as nationally: geography and geology, governments, tribal sovereignty, industrial growth, westward expansion, and more. Earning the “Washington State History Milestone” is a high school graduation requirement. Students may satisfy the Washington State history graduation requirement through successful completion of the locally determined assessment either first or second semester OR by passing both semesters of this course. In addition, students will earn .5 high school elective credits by passing both semesters of this course. This is a high school credit bearing class that will automatically have the credit and corresponding grade placed on the student's high school transcript. Students have until the end of their 11th grade year to remove the credit bearing course from their transcript. That request must be made through the student's high school counselor.
