As per the 2026-2027 Memo # 11, Grade 7 and 8 teachers are asked to use the Knowledgehook pre- and post-instruction assessments created by the Elementary Program Team to assess better inform instruction and assess student understanding in a timely fashion.
Pre-Instruction Assessments for each Strand
Grade 7 and 8 teachers are to have students complete the pre-instruction assessment before teaching the strand. Each pre-instruction assssment is only 3-5 questions long. The questions are entry level, using level 1, and level 2 EQAO style questions, on concepts that review the prior grade curriculum. The information from this assessment informs teachers of prior knowledge the students have and the reports are meant to support and inform instruction for that strand.
Post-Instruction Assessments for each Strand
Grade 7 and 8 teachers are to have students complete the post-instruction assessment at the end of the Strand to help determine student understanding. These assessments have ben created using a range of level 2, 3 and 4 questions to give students a chance to explore EQAO-sytle questison aligned with that specific grade level curriculum. Teachers are encouraged to use the reports to review student misconceptions, as a class, or in small groups depending on the outcomes of the assessment.
If you require assistance with Knowledgehook or have questions about incorporating this into your classroom practice, please reach out to your school-assigned math facilitator, your administrator, or the System Coordinator of Mathematics - Nicole Beuckelare.
