Teacher Professional Growth Procedures
The LIS Primary Section Professional Growth Procedures are designed to support pedagogical development for each faculty member. They are undertaken collaboratively with colleagues, mentors and the school section leadership with a strong focus on feedback, reflection and self assessment.
Professional Growth links directly to the LIS Values
A commitment to continual improvement for all members of the community is paramount.
Learning is a social and emotional process that is authentic, differentiated and fosters international mindedness.
Learning cognitive, creative, physical, social and emotional skills are fundamental for a balanced learning experience.
Learning thrives when positive, respectful relationships exist in an inclusive environment.
The ultimate aim of the Professional Growth Procedures is to:
improve student learning.
enable staff to learn about, develop, implement and focus attention on ‘best practice’.
encourage dialogue and further develop professional relationships.
further develop shared values within the primary team.
demonstrate the breadth of professional skill and experience within the primary team.
The model supports professional growth through:
the LIS Primary Teacher Standards.
the setting of goals and actions toward achieving them.
regular classroom walkthroughs to collect data on the teaching and learning observed and provide feedback.
a series of three meetings with a supervisor in September/October, January/February and May to discuss student learning, share feedback and data, and the teacher’s progress in achieving their goals.
Each teacher will be assigned a PLT Supervisor who will meet with the teacher during the year.
