Career and Technical Education courses are designed to prepare students in the technical and professional skills necessary to succeed in today’s high-demand occupational environment along with the opportunity to utilize academic skills gained. Our programs provide a variety of elective courses from which students can select in addition to the academic courses required for graduation. Career and Technical education allows a student to explore their potential and establish career goals. Career education courses encourage students to develop a personal career plan. Students may choose to gain college credits by taking Dual-Credit courses or Technical Prep courses during High School years. Our courses prepare students for employment in the field of study along with completing certifications and licensing.
To guide and assist you in your high school planning there is a course guide and a 4 year plan form attached below. It may be used to help you plan and get the most from your high school experience.

The Career Preparation course is for paid or unpaid experiences. The training component addresses the TEKS for the course and provides a student with a variety of learning experiences that will give the student the broadest possible understanding of business and industry.
The work-based learning instructional arrangement must consist of student participation in training appropriate to the student’s coherent sequence of courses plus participation in related CTE classroom instruction. This practicum course spans the entire year. A student is expected to be enrolled the entire school year. However, in accordance with local district policy, a student may enter or exit the course when extenuating circumstances require such a change.
To learn more on how students gain credit and earn grades by working off campus during their early release periods, contact our Career Advisor Branden Johnson as soon as possible via 903-803-5851 or bdjohnson@lisd.org.
