Special Olympics gives students with disabilities the opportunity to compete, grow, and be recognized as student-athletes. Each season builds confidence, skills, and teamwork, and counts toward Letterman jacket eligibility.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS FAQ
Students ages 6-7- can participate in the LHISD Special Olympics Mock Trial Meet (practice event).
Students age 8 and older- can participate in official Special Olympics competitions.
Eligibility includes students with:
Intellectual Disabilities
Down Syndrome
Autism w/ Cognitive Impairment
Other Developmental Disabilities Impacting Cognition
Athletes cannot practice or compete without completed paperwork.
Medical Physical
Valid for 3 years
Must be completed by a Licensed Physician
Annual Registration & Waivers
Required every year
Required by Special Olympics
Athletes may participate in the following sports:
Bowling - Fall Semester
Pickleball- Fall Semester
Track & Field- Spring Semester
LHISD Special Olympics is 100% free to participate.
