Liberty Hill ISD is addressing state findings of significant disproportionality in the identification of Autism for students of Asian ethnicity. In order to comply with requirements set forth by the Texas Education Agency, we are required to review and revise our policies, procedures, and practices to ensure all evaluations are free from bias and meet the individual needs of every student.
After a thorough review and root cause analysis, no changes were found to be needed in the policies or procedures; however, district practices have been thoroughly reviewed and updates made accordingly.
The District is committed to providing fair, accurate, and comprehensive special education evaluations for all students suspected of having a disability.
Our evaluation process ensures that:
No Discrimination: Assessments are selected and administered fairly, without racial or cultural bias.
Accessible Communication: Assessments are given in the student's native language or primary mode of communication to reflect their knowledge and skills accurately.
Full Picture: We use a variety of assessment tools and strategies and never rely on a single test result as the sole basis for determining eligibility.
Accuracy: We use trained personnel and appropriate tools to ensure results reflect the student's true abilities, rather than being skewed by any sensory, speaking, or physical impairments.
Thorough Review: The evaluation comprehensively assesses all areas related to the suspected disability to identify all the student's needs.
We strive to ensure the evaluation process is accurate and provides all the necessary information to determine eligibility and develop the best possible educational program for your child. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this notice, we welcome your feedback.
