Parent notes can be submitted to cclark@libertyhill.txed.net with proper documentation attached, from the parent email address on file or hand delivered to the SRMS Attendance Office. Doctor's offices can also fax the note directly to 512-379-3385. All notes (parental and medical/dental) should include student's legal first and last name as well as dates of absences. Please do not use nicknames.
Attendance cannot be coded based on a phone call. It must be a note, email or online google form.
Absences must be reported to Attendance Office within 2 days of the first day of absence.
All absence notes must be received within 2 school days of the student returning to SRMS. Due to the high volume of notes received, please allow at least 2 business days for the attendance code to be updated. Absence codes can be monitored in Skyward Family Access.
If a student arrives to a class 10+ minutes after the period has started, the student will be marked absent for that period.
If a student is ill more than 3 days in a row, a doctor's note must be submitted to excuse additional absences.
PARENT AND DOCTOR NOTES ARE SUBJECT TO RANDOM VERIFICATION
Whether for full days or parts of day(s) , the following information about absences applies:
Excused Absences: Excused absences are not viewed as days a student is entitled to take. Excused absences include, but are not limited to personal illness, full day doctor/medical absence (w/documentation), funeral/memorial for immediate family member (must provide program and/or obituary), citizen/naturalization required appearances, or weather or road conditions that make travel dangerous per LHISD notification. Students are required to attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. The student may be required to make up excessive excused absences.
Unexcused Absences: An unexcused absence is any absence that does not meet the definition of an excused absence (examples: personal business, vacation, club sports/travel, traffic, car trouble, etc.).
State Approved Non-Absences: Some absences are considered 'Exempt' if the proper documentation is provided by the student and/or parent/guardian within two (2) days of the student’s return to school. A 'State Approved Non-Absence' is one for which the District still receives funding and the student is marked in the attendance system with a code that is equivalent to present. Specific examples can be found in the LHISD student handbook. Students do not accumulate hours against the 90% rule.
Medical/Dental Appointments: A student may be excused for a temporary (partial day) absence due to an appointment with health care professionals for the student if the student begins classes or returns to school on the same day of the appointment/treatment and provides a note from the doctor/dentist office.
Failure to Attend: A student fails to attend school when the student misses a class or classes (often called “skipping”). A student who fails to attend school is subject to campus disciplinary consequences.
Please view the LHISD STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK for additional absence reasons that qualify.
If your student was marked absent for one or more periods, and you believe it's in error, please contact your student's teacher first. I am unable to make changes without the teacher's approval.
