General Information for Reading Academies
What are the HB3 Reading Academies & why are they required?
House Bill 3, passed by the Texas Legislature, requires all kindergarten through third grade teachers and principals to attend “Texas Reading Academies” by the end of the 2022-2023 school year. The goal of the Texas HB3 Reading Academies is to “increase teacher knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practices to positively impact student literacy achievement” (TEA).
Who will participate?
The lists below outlines the required, strongly encourages, and local discretion participation for the HB3 Reading Academies. This list was updated per TEA for the 2024-2025 school year. Reading Academies requirements will be completed through a partnership with Region 13. For each cohort, there will be an options for ELAR, Biliteracy, STR-Passed, and Biliteracy STR-Passed.
June COMPREHENSIVE Cohort (In-Person Sessions) **Region 13 assures us that there is little to no work that is required outside of these sessions.**
ELAR - 10 In-person Sessions
STR-Passed - 7 In-person Sessions
How do we register for Reading Academies?
Liberty Hill ISD will be partnering with Region 13 ESC to provide Texas Reading Academies cohorts. Comprehensive Cohort Commitment forms were sent out to eligble participants during May 2024. Following the completion of the Reading Academies Commitment Form, LHISD T&L registers participants through the Region 13 eCampus platform.
It is a district expectation that every teacher be present at their selected cohort sessions.

When will the modules be complete throughout the school year?
Below, you will find our plan for implementation during the 2024-2025 school year. Our goal is for the completion of the Reading Academies modules to not create any burden on our district teachers. The June modules are 100% in-person at one of the specified Region 13 locations.
How will I earn CPE credit for Reading Academies in Eduphoria?
Following the completion of your modules of Texas Reading Academies, professional learning hours will be granted through Eduphoria through a certificate upload.
How will Liberty Hill ISD support the completion of Reading Academies modules throughout the school year in the June cohort?
Sub Days
Teachers completing the in-person sessions through the June 2024 Cohorts, will be provided sub days to attend each of the required Reading Academies sessions.
June 2024 COMPREHENSIVE ELAR Cohort
Cohort Important Information:
This cohort consists of 10 in-person sessions.
7 of the sessions will require a substitute throughout the course of the 2024-2025 school year.
The remaining 3 sessions fall on a district professional learning day and/or summer.
As part of Reading Academies, you will also be assigned a Region 13 Reading Academies coach, which will support you through 4 coaching sessions throughout the year to support your implementation of the Science of Teaching Reading.
Since the sessions are held in person, Region 13 assures us that there is little to no work that is required outside of these sessions.
June 2024 COMPREHENSIVE STR Cohort
Cohort Important Information:
This cohort consists of 7 in-person sessions.
5 of the sessions will require a substitute throughout the course of the 2024-2025 school year.
The remaining 2 sessions fall during the summer, they can count as your Flex Day/summer professional learning for the year.
As part of Reading Academies, you will also be assigned a Region 13 Reading Academies coach, which will support you through 4 coaching sessions throughout the year to support your implementation of the Science of Teaching Reading.
Since the sessions are held in person, Region 13 assures us that there is little to no work that is required outside of these sessions.
2024-2025 Flex Day Completion
June 2024 ELAR & STR Cohorts
For the June 2024 ELAR & STR Cohorts, you will earn your 2024-2025 Flex Day through the completion of your summer Reading Academies Sessions.
By completing the required Summer Reading Academies Sessions, you will be able exchange the one Flex Day for May 29, 2025.
