Date: October 2018, Junior year of high school
My first ever experience with programming was on my TI-89 Titanium graphing calculator (which was my favorite Christmas present my sophomore year of high school). Our teachers taught us how to write programs on our calculators to solve math equations, like the quadratic formula for example. This was my first exposure to programming, and so I continued to play around coding on my calculator.
There are programs that let you draw lines and circles on the calculator. I looked up the syntax for the TI-89 programming language, and after much trial and error, I created this program, Flappy Bird. There is a video below showing me playing the game, along with the code for the project.
While this is a pretty simple project in hindsight, this was the project that sent me down the path of programming, and eventually becoming an engineer.Â
The batteries in my calculator have died, and the backup battery died as well, so all of the programs, including flappy bird, have been erased from my calculator. This is very sad!
