Today the FMP was introduced to us, the theme is mirrors, I feel like it's a very interesting theme, it's quite broad in the terms of mirrors can be used literally in mise en scene or metaphorically in ways such as self reflection, mirror worlds, inner thoughts and feelings. I'm excited to see what I do with this FMP.

I started working today on a reflection of the theme of mirrors, I researched paintings, books, movies and photography that implements the theme of 'mirrors' and how reflected on how they all used mirrors in such different and unique ways. This is because I wanted to see many different examples and methods that mirrors are used in different pieces of media which has helped me see that a lot can be done using mirrors.

I finished off my reflection of mirrors research. This was a really insightful to me as it has now made me want to do some more research on mirrors and how they can be used and what they can symbolise.

Today we were told we need to present a pecha kucha presentation in a week's time. I have done a pecha kucha presentation before so I knew exactly what to do however before I that, I wanted to write a reflection of my past units to help me reflect on what I excel at and what I need to work on, so that I can include that in my presentation. I also had a look at the video of my pecha kucha presentation from last year.

I have used the past week to finish off my pecha kucha and reflection of previous units. I am now ready to present my pecha kucha to my teacher and peers next lesson. I have also started with my spider diagram that lists different types of metaphorical meanings of mirrors, different ways mirrors can be used, and symbolism of mirrors.

I presented my pecha kucha to my peers and teacher and recorded myself so that I can have a copy. I also started to write about what mirrors mean to me as i feel like this is a good way of getting my knowledge of mirrors down into a physical copy so that i can read it any time.

Today, Christian did a presentation about what we should keep in mind and should do if we want to achieve a distinction, and I would like to achieve a distinction so I will keep in mind the core few things he said that relate to my project.

Today I am going back and working on my site, I have updated my reflective diary and put the work I've already done on my site. After Christian's presentation a few days ago, I think it is a good idea to go back and expand on some of the things i've written, which I will be doing today.

I have gotten started on a mood board about the project I've chosen to do, this is so that I have a clear image of what kind of aesthetic and vibe I'm going for in my film and helps me gain any type of inspiration, either a shot or colour grading.

I have finished off my mood board and am planning on getting started on my script. Before I start writing the script, I find it very useful to just write down random plot points, conversations that i want the characters to have and brief summaries about the characters this is to help me really immerse myself in what i write and it is useful to me to look back on and read whenever im writing the script. I have started to plan my contextual research and find sources I can use. I want to do a genre research on comedy first, comedy is a big part of the short film I want to do and i feel like researching it is going to be useful, I could find something that will help me with my script. This week im going to be focusing on preparing for my case studies and contextual by finding material to help me with them, this is so I know what i'm going to do and will not have to rush to find short films to do case studies on or rush to find contextual material.

It's the last day at college before the 2 week holidays start, im using my time in college to sort everything out and make sure I have everything required to carry on with my work at home. I started working on my genre research today. genre research is important as it will give me a much needed insight of what types of comedy genres are popular and what genre I should use for my short film.

I have been doing my contextual for the most part of the day, I have finished my genre research and am now getting started on the next part of my contextual research. During my genre research I have found 3 subgenres of comedy that I feel will be a perfect fit for my short film. Satire comedy, Dark comedy and Slapstick. I have also been thinking about my case studies, I no longer feel like the short films I had previously chosen were a good fit so im now going to be trying to find new case studies to do.

I have spent part of the day looking at comedy short films to find new ones to do case studies on, a problem i keep getting is, although I search youtube for 'Comedy short films' i keep getting everything but. I did find a few comedy short films but I didn't find them particularly funny or even remotely interesting so Im going to keep searching and the rest of the comedy short films weren't even in english.

I have finished off my contextual, although I'm not sure if its enough, I might write a bit more at a later date, I already know what I'll write about so it wont be like im trying to find something to write about. I have also found a whole playlist of comedy short films that I will be looking through briefly and watching a dozen or so to find the perfect short films to do case studies on. I wasnt having an luck on youtube so i searched on google for comedy short films and came across a link to a youtube playlist.

I have been very sick past few days so I haven't done as much as I should but today, I have found 3 videos I would like to do case studies on, I have written notes whilst watching them so any thoughts I have, are written down and not forgotten. I have written notes about what goes on in each of the short films, any interesting shots or editing techniques such as fast cuts and 'The Office' style camera shots. After reviewing the notes on one of the short films, I started writing my case study, I rewatched the short film a few times whilst writing so that I can directly reference parts of it without having to vaguely remember the details, this is so my case study is more detailed.

Today I finally filmed the rest of my project, this time I had a checklist of pre-recording measures such as checking if the microphone is turned on, making sure the camera is in focus and making sure there's no unnecessary outside noise. I made this checklist because I dont want to record the whole thing and then find out the microphone wasnt working like the last time I recorded a couple of weeks ago. The checklist really helped me ensure that my videos come out to a satisfactory level and that the whole filming process will go by as quickly as possible since from a camerawoman/directing standpoint.

Today I saved all my work from the filming I did during the week break and started to review the footage as I was concerned about whether anything had gone wrong and I would have to rerecord which then would bring me to an even more extreme time crunch until the deadline. Thankfully everything seemed to be in order and I started to use the day to rewrite certain production documents so it showed the new actor and location instead.

I decided to do a focus group to add to my audience research as I felt that I needed a more in depth answer and discussion from my target audience. I edited my focus group video and have uploaded it to my site.

I have started to edit my short film, which I feel will take some time as it is quite a lot to edit, Im estimating the runtime of the short film to be 8+ minutes. I tried finding more to put into my secondary research but I'm having a difficult time finding more statistics and sources to put in. I searched through multiple websites and I couldn't find much.

Today is the deadline and I have decided to use this day to do my evaluation and go through my site and all my presentations and alter things slightly to better them. I made my site more aesthetically pleasing to look at whilst also adding onto some of my research and contextual. Although I finished my contextual a while ago, I decided to write some more as I feel as though it wasn't enough. I have also finished my Evaluation and am ready to sign off.
