As I get older, there is a deep feeling of nostalgia that washes over all of my memories and I want to express that feeling through how the memory appears in my head with elements that reflect aspects of my childhood (illustrative style). This led me to my investigation question: How can I express my personal feelings of childhood nostalgia through an exaggerated, bright, and illustrative look? In this investigation, I used watercolor and illustrative techniques to explore how to express my memories.

Throughout my SI I experimented w/ expressive styles in many mediums: watercolor, digital drawing, &colored pencils to portray feelings of nostalgia. Some works were inspired by illustrative styles of my favorite children's books(1,3,5).Other works emphasized intentional/symbolic color(10,12,13).I explored different processes to express youthful joy, bliss, & simplicity (15,12,10,5,7).Works 8,14,&15 show juxtapositions btwn childhood&growing up. Experimentation with materials, colors, mark-making,&style allowed me to explore expression&visual story telling/imagination(3,7,10,15)
As I get older, nostalgia increasingly shapes how I remember my childhood experiences. This led me to investigate: "How can I express my personal feeling of childhood nostalgia through bright color, bold compositions, and illustrative styled lines/mark-making?" Using watercolor and line drawing techniques, I explored how distorted proportions, bold patterns, exaggerated perspective, surreal settings, saturated color, and simplified forms combine to visually communicate the emotional tone of imagination and memories to reflect the way they are immortilized in my mind from the perspective of my child self.
