As someone who enjoys literature, television, & other media focusing on the supernatural genre. I've seen how visual storytelling influences & elicits an emotional response from harmful dynamics & toxic behaviors normalized in these storylines. The desire to understand society’s obsession w/ themes, like the tension between attraction & danger, led me to explore: “to what extent can modern subject matter, fantasy realism, dramatic lighting & symbolic color expose modern romanticism of manipulation, toxicity, & predatory behaviors within supernatural context & aspects of pop-culture?”

Describe ways that your Sustained Investigation developed through practice, experimentation, and revision (600 characters):
My investigation began by exploring how manipulation & toxicity are depicted in an alluring way/veiled in romance. I explored symbolic portraiture: representing tension between attraction & danger (1-3,9-11), experimentation of color isolation/symbolism (6,13,15), fantasy realism (1-3,7-11), dramatic lighting (3, 6, 11-15), and the inclusion of modern subject matter (4-6,12-15). Together, these ideas demonstrate the effect of romanticism/attraction to harmful themes that impact young teenagers through naivety & excessive reliance on media and pop-culture.
As someone who enjoys literature, television, and other media focusing on the supernatural, I've encountered many who misinterpret the intended messages and toxic behavior of most creatures. The desire to understand the ignorance of many to themes that led to the creation of the supernatural, I investigated following the question: Why are themes of manipulation, toxicity, and predation romanticized through modern television, social media, and pop culture, and how can they be addressed through lighting, color, and works of semi-realism?
