Halloween is celebrated on October 31st and is known as one of the spookiest holidays. According to History.com, this holiday was originally an ancient Celtic Festival of Samhain. During this festival, people would dress in costumes and light bonfires to protect themselves from ghosts. Modern Halloween contains classic "Trick or treating", carving jack o- lanterns, and parties celebrating all that is spooky and fun! Trick or Treating originated from the English celebration, Β¨All Souls Day Β¨, where poor people would go from house to house begging for soul cakes. In return, they would pray for the person's dead relatives. This tradition was encouraged by churches and it was referred to as, "Going a-souling". Halloween marks the end of summer and the start of winter, and I suppose the Samhain people wanted to have one last celebration before what they thought was going to be a cold dreary season. They also believed that on the 31st of October, the ghosts of the dead would come back to life.Β
