Field Hockey is open to ALL students at Diamond - whether you have played the sport before or not! Click here for a basic field hockey overview/guide.
Important Information:
1. Tryouts are open to ALL interested Diamond Students! See above for tryout schedule.
2. Register: players MUST be registered for field hockey online in order to tryout. Click HERE for the link to register.
3. Physical: Any student wishing to participate in the Diamond MS athletics program MUST have a physical exam within 13 months of the first day of tryouts (dated 8/3/24 or after). Proof of this exam must be on file with the Nurses Office.
4. Middle School Athletic User Fee: $150.00
Practices:
★ Practices will be held every day, besides game days, from 2:50 - 4:20. On Fridays, practice will end at 4:00.
If there is a half-day or no school, there is no practice.
Practices end promptly at scheduled times, unless noted by the coach. All athletes should be picked up immediately after practice or have permission to walk home.
If weather is not great, last minute updates will be made over school announcements and/or email notifications will be sent at earliest possible opportunity
Commitment:
★ Expected Commitment for each Team Player is 5 DAYS PER WEEK, including games and practices.
If there are any schedule conflicts, please bring them to Coach Moulton's attention as soon as possible via email. Absence from practice may impact individual athlete play time during games.
Game Schedule:
Select the 'Schedule' tab, in the top right, to view.
A paper copy will be distributed once the team is selected.
Bus transportation is provided to/from Diamond for away games.
Game day pick ups will vary. On game days, athletes will be able to call for their rides when their game ends. If it is an away game, we start calling when we are about 20 minutes from the school to give appropriate time to respond.
School rule regarding rides from off-site games: If you want your child to get a ride home from an away game with another parent/guardian, your child must present a note to the coach stating that you give permission for the parent/guardian to transport your child.
Proper Field Hockey Equipment is essential for safe and fun play, and also a necessary component of the official rules of the game. That being said, if anything is damaged or missing, players will not be allowed to play during practices and/or games. Please contact Coach Moulton if you have any questions regarding equipment.
★ Goggles: Specific to field hockey. They must have a ASTM sticker. The cage goggles work best. They are available at most sporting good stores and range in price from $25-$50. No Lacrosse Goggles! (these look very similar but are missing a protective bar that the field hockey goggles have, and refs will not allow athletes to play without correct eye protection)
★ Mouth guard: They must be colored. Clear mouth guards are not legal for play. I recommend buying more than one. You will not be able to play without a mouth piece.
★ Water bottle: Please bring a water bottle with you to ALL practices and games. We will be conditioning during preseason and running throughout drills.
★ Cleats: Are strongly recommended, but not required. You will be less likely to slip when moving on the field than you would be in regular athletic footwear.
★ (Dark Blue) Shin guards: Knee length with ankle bone protection specific to field hockey. The color is important for refs to see during games.
★ Field hockey stick: If you don't have your own, please contact Ms. Moulton prior to first day of tryouts. Proper sizing is determined by height, leg length, and arm length
★ Field Hockey Ball: please have your own ball labelled with your first and last name. This will be used for at home drills/ practice.
★ Change of clothes for practice: Please make sure you are ready for practice at 2:50
★ Uniform for Games: Please make sure you are ready in full uniform before boarding game buses
★ Jewelry: MUST be removed for games!
★ All athletes are expected to bring their own field hockey equipment and water to ALL tryouts, practices, and games (with the exception of Goalie Equipment).
