Big Backyard Summer Family Activities!
Grade Five Nature Walkers explore ecosystems. They will explore and record in a forest ecosystem, observe interactions and interdependence in this system and discover the cyclic nature of the food/energy cycle. Students begin to understand that an ecosystem is a continually changing process of interdependence between plants, animals, fungi, and non-living things. In addition the students are introduced to scientific journaling.

Note: All adults who work with children in the Big Backyard program must have a valid CORI . Please click here to fill out a CORI form. CORI checks are good for 3 years.
Read the guide before your walk to familiarize yourself with areas to visit and activities.
Volunteers watch a short on-demand 15 minute video, before the walk, to learn an overall approach to guiding children outdoors as well as modeling of the activities on each specific walk.
