Mar 10

Agenda:

Homework/due dates:

  • Author Imitation due March 12
  • In-class synthesis (either March 12 or March 18)
  • Celebrity blogs due!!
  • In Our Time slides due March 18

1. Two group slides

      • Iceberg Principle
      • Choice between "tough, terse prose," masculinity, or lost generation (see page from 3/3)
          • Hemingway was known for his "tough, terse prose." He wrote of characters who "suffered unseen scars, both physical and emotional." Select one of the short stories and evaluate Hemingway's prose -- how is it considered "tough, and terse?" How does a character suffer from an "unseen scar?"
        • How does Hemingway display aspects of the lost generation era within the short story and through his characters?
        • How is the theme of masculinity portrayed within the short story?

2. Individual Academy slides (one per group member)

      • See assignment on Google Classroom

3. Individual Feedback slides (one per group member)

      • For example, I would have a slide titled "Ms. Gardiner's Feedback" and would have each group member listed on my slide with my one comment and my one question (in response to their Academy slides) under each name
