Feb 11/12

Agenda:

  • Argument Return and Review
  • Reading and Quiz Time
  • Small Group Work: Select your story selection here: 4A Padlet; 6B Padlet
    • 1st Task: Hemingway was known for his "tough, terse prose." He wrote of characters who "suffered unseen scars, both physical and emotional." Select a short story from In Our Time and evaluate Hemingway's prose -- how is it considered "tough, and terse"--his characters--how does a character suffer from an "unseen scar?
    • 2nd Task: Choose a particular theme--such as war or bullfighting or maturation--and trace it over the course of several sections of the narrative. How does the theme change or develop (or fail to do so)? How does each section provide a distinctive perspective on the chosen theme? Is there any consistency in Hemingway's treatment of the selected topic?
