Turkey is well known for whirling dervishes, also known as Sufi turners, in Turkey they call it semazen. It looks like a bunch of men in hats spinning around with one arm pointing to the sky and other pointing to the ground. The hats look like tall tubes of fabric, they spin while wearing wide robes so that their cloaks spin in circles around them. The ritual is done as a form of physical meditation praticed by one sect of sufi muslim. For a while the practice was banned in Turkey. In 2005 it was proclaimed one of the masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of humanity by UNESCO, a United Nations cultural organization.
April 23 of 2020 was the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, also known as National Sovereignty and Children's Day! It is the only major holiday that is devoted to all the children of Turkey.

Turkey was founded October 29, 1923, almost a hundred years ago. Its first president was Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Lots of people tried to conquer Turkey. It was probably because it was built right in between Asia and Europe, which is an excellent location for trading goods like fabrics and spices. Some of the people who conquered Turkey were King Midas and Alexander the Great. Turkey was part of the Ottoman Empire until it became its own country.
The country of Turkey has no official motto but an unofficial motto of Turkey is, “Egemenlik, kayıtsız şartsız milletindir!” which means “Sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the people”
