My main focus as a librarian is to ensure that my students are successful learners and decision-makers, not only with their academic skills but also with digital learning. We learn best when provided with authentic experiences. In the 21st century, all children should have the accessibility to knowledge. Students that are allowed to explore even if only by digital means, can conquer obstacles, break barriers, and make their own decisions and dreams a reality.

In my Administration of School Libraries course, I had the opportunity to create a facilities plan proposal and a floor plan for a brand-new library. The old library was outdated, and the renovation cost would be greater than razing the old building and building a new one. In the Vestal Elementary School Library Facilities Plan, I proposed a budget and the components outlined in the School Library Programs: Standards and Guidelines for Texas. The facility would be a 21st-century Library with essential amenities, a place that will meet the needs of all learners, and a place where young minds are encouraged to succeed. This activity provided me with the experience of creating a Facilities Plan and a floor plan, allowing me to be fully vested in designing a new library that would benefit all learners.
Librarians must be able to create marketing plans that will benefit learners on their campus. I learned that a marketing plan is a tool that I can use to help achieve my library goals. It lays out the steps involved in getting the tools necessary or programs needed for a library. My marketing plan is "Approaches to Meets or Advanced with the Fun Buddy Reading Program," The library's fun buddy reading program aims for all upper-grade students to score at the meets or advanced level measured by the 2023 STAAR 2.0. The Fun Buddy reading program will also pave the way for lower-grade students to become proficient and fluent in their reading skills, increasing understanding and comprehension.
568 Maker Space: I learned about and enjoyed designing a Makerspace area out of an existing computer lab. The original computer lab only contained floating tables alongside the walls. This newly updated area will promote creativity and ensure optimal space usage. I used the digital program Floorpanner to design the site that would become the new Makerspace room. Having an area designated for exploration will promote student learning, communication, collaboration, and growth.
I learned the importance of creating different methods of making "Book Reports" more meaningful and engaging. I created a rubric that would guide learners while creating their book reports. Providing student choice helps students become independent learners.
Offering students different ways to represent their learning is key. I learned that being able to allow students to represent their learning in a different way would promote self-learning and growth.
Creating a new and engaging way to show that students are comprehending what they are learning and making connections is important for growth. I learned that the activity Radio exchange is a great way to promote higher-order thinking.
The goal of a Library Media Center is to provide patrons with materials that will support and enrich the school's educational program and assist in ensuring equity of access to library resources available for all members of the school community. Part of being a librarian is knowing the ins and outs of their collections and how to protect the community within and outside of the campus. A Collection Development policy is crucial to have, and It contains the procedures and guidelines that library staff members should follow when selecting, weeding, acquiring, and building a library collection. By creating my own Collection Development Policy, I was able to internalize my learning and demonstrate my understanding of the Development Collection Policy and its importance for my library program.
A librarian must know how to plan accordingly, and knowing the School Library Programs and Guidelines For Texas is a must for any Texas Librarian. Taking the Guidelines reviewing them and putting them into my own words demonstrates my communication and understanding of the guidelines. I will use and adhere to these guidelines when planning and collaborating with my peers/teachers, students, and parents/community.
