In the sections below, I demonstrate How I communicate effectively with parents, as a continuous learner and a professional. Being able to communicate effectively using digital media and technology in different aspects of my profession both formally and informally is an important aspect of staying connected and keeping the community informed. Four ways that I integrate effective communication, media, and information, are through the use of Gmail, Google Classroom, Class Dojo, and Weekly Newsletter. I did not create either platform or the template for the Newsletter, but those are the means by which I use to communicate with students and parents aside from the phone. Keeping constant and regular communication with parents is important, the benefits are overall better class behavior and community involvement
I send out at a minimum 2 class dojos weekly. I keep parents updated with things that happen last minute that are not included in our weekly newsletters. One thing the students and I like about class dojo is the point system. They can earn incentives for good behavior, attendance, and turning work in a timely manner. As a Class Dojo Mentor, I have also posted community messages on Class Dojoby which promotes community involvement.
I use Gmail, Calendar, Teams, and Drive to communicate with my co-workers, we send each other emails along with lessons. I can access anyone within my district.
I can also contact parents via email.
Every week, I send home a weekly Classroom newsletter. The newsletter contains information that is happening during the week, reminders and a peek of the content and vocabulary that is being covered for each subject that particular week.
I communicate learning objectives with students through Google Classroom, Students are assigned digital assignments and stations that coincide with the state standards that are being taught and practiced. I can access student work remotely from any location that I am at. If students are absent, they can access the assignments in Google Classroom from home.
As a learner, I communicated through reflections. The assigned discussions based on the readings presented were challenging at times. I had to think critically and make connections. I found that I had to conduct quite some research when answering the discussion prompts. We usually had very informative videos in addition to our readings, but sometimes to further clarify a topic, I would conduct additional research. I am a better thinker and communicator today than when I first started this journey. I enjoyed reading the feedback my peers left for me on a weekly basis. It helped me better understand the concepts we learned in class.
