YEAR 5

We are very proud of our Year 5 pupils. They have continued to show fantastic attitudes to their learning in all areas.

Our Science topic of Space has again been incorporated into our English Writing. Moving on from the Katherine Johnson Biographies, the children are currently researching Missions to Mars ready to write a Non- chronological report. We are very much looking forward to Science week and Mars Day (Tuesday 5th March) when we have two online lessons from ESA(European Space Agency) and the UK Space Agency.

This term's DT learning also links the theme of Earth and Beyond, as we will be designing  lunar buggies.

In Maths we have been learning about fractions and are now exploring decimals. We will be comparing decimals, adding and subtracting decimal numbers, solving problems about money and finding the fraction equivalent to a decimal.

In Art lessons, the children created Monotypes with paint, collage and block printing.

They responded to the poem "Ghost in the Garden" to create backgrounds, create stencils and produce a final print.  Their visual representations of the poem are stunning and they enjoyed the process of making a Monotype.

As we move into the season of Spring, the children are enjoying Outdoor Learning opportunities, including climbing on the new Playframe, cricket lessons from Surrey Cricket Coach Jon with the "Chance to Shine" programme and planting seeds and chitted potatoes with Jayne from Grow Cook Enjoy.
