Year 2 have had an excellent end to this term.
We had our trip to Arundel Castle where the children were blown away by the sights and especially loved re-enacting the Battle of Hastings. We were so inspired by our trip that we have even made adverts to persuade others to visit the castle.
In History we have been learning about the different types of castles and why they were built. We even designed our own castles with some having extremely high security measures so enemies had no chance of invading.
In our Art lessons we have continued combining Art and music and have designed our own musical instruments. These were inspired by our favourite animals and allowed us all creative freedom and showed what incredible imaginations we have.
We have also continued practising our songs for our upcoming Big Sing performance in June. We can't wait to perform and show everyone what amazing voices we have.
To aid with the transition to Year 3, we are now using Google Classroom instead of seesaw in class. We were all very excited to explore the new platform and can't wait to see what more it can do after half term.
Next half term we are going to be continuing our Science unit on plants and will be getting very hands on by growing our own cress in class. We have been looking at different seeds and what grows from them and welcome any pictures of home grown fruits/vegetables!
We are also going to be looking at what it is like to live by the coast. If you have any pictures/stories of visiting the coast and would like to send these in with the children please do as this helps to add to the learning experience.
Mrs Rymill will continue to be in school 4 days a week with Mrs Courthold working with Year 2 on a Friday.
We have now transitioned onto TTRS in Year 2. Children should be using this to develop their fluency in their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
All children should be aiming to read for at least 10 minutes per day. Do record this in their reading diary as they are monitored.
Each week your child will bring home a printed list of words to practise spelling at home.
At this point in the year there will not be handwriting homework. In Year 2 we are beginning to join up our handwriting and writing in cursive. You may choose to help your child practise this at home.
