TOPIC - THE SEASIDE
We have had another busy few weeks and have been continuing to explore books about the seaside with our new fiction book 'The Storm Whale' by Benji Davies. The children have been working on their inference skills and thinking about how the characters in the book feel. They have also created some lovely story maps to retell the story in preparation for their writing. The children have been retelling the story as if they were the main character, Noi and we have been so delighted with their wonderful writing!
In Maths, we have been continuing to build on their counting skills by practising to count in multiples of 2, 5, and 10 and have spent time looking at the value of 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p coins. We have been looking at what coins we would need to buy toys in the shops.
In Science, we have been learning about plants and learning about the different parts of flowering plants. When you are out and about over half term please spend time looking at the plants around you, trying to name them and their parts. Thank you for all the children who have already brought in the names of the plants in their gardens or on their walk to school and shared it with the class.
In RE, the children have been learning about Judaism and looking at how Jewish people celebrate Shabbat on a Friday evening and a Saturday. The children have been relating this to their own experience by thinking about how they like to spend a special day and who they would spend it with.
In History, we had a lovely lesson creating our own personal timelines and the children absolutely loved seeing each others baby photos! We are looking at personal chronology and will continue sharing our timelines and looking at how we can tell our personal histories after half term.
In Art we have been busy creating our wonderful bird sculptures! We created 3D birds, getting creative designing and making their feathers and getting them to stand on wire legs.
We have also really enjoyed our Bee Workshop this term. We learnt where bees live, how they communicate and even tasted their delicious honey!
Have a lovely half term break.
