YEAR 2

What a wonderful half term we have had! We finished writing our alternative fairy tales for the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bag Pig. Mrs Wells was overjoyed reading our hard work. Continuing our theme of traditional tales, we have begun to explore The Leopard's Drum, a traditional tale from West Africa. Swans have enjoyed exploring the African jungle, as well as diving deep into the colourful illustrations. We have used Flip, a filming tool, to record our retelling of the story and will be using this to support our writing.

We have been surrounded by shapes in Maths, exploring 2D shapes before moving onto 3D shapes. We have learned a variety of new vocabulary such as vertex, vertices and edges. In Science, we are bringing our learning about Animals Including Humans to a close, ready to start our new unit on Plants after Easter.

In Science week, we explored time - specifically 15 seconds! We carried out some tests to see who could most accurately count to 15 in their head and drop a pencil at the 15 second mark, and used these skills to design a marble run which would last a full 15 seconds. We considered the materials we would need and how we could manipulate the materials to slow down or speed up the marble. We had such fun!

We have continued to investigate expressive painting and have looked more deeply at the work of Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Cezzane. We used our new learning of texture and brushstrokes to create our own versions of Van Gogh's Starry Night. In History, we have been investigating the life of Amy Johnson and her remarkable achievements.

How lucky we were to be invited to see ACS Cobham's performance of Frozen! We were blown away by their hard work and talent and were delighted to go and visit for the morning. Many Swans were feeling inspired, singing Let it go for the remainder of the school day.

Have a lovely Easter Break and I look forward to seeing you all next term!

Over the Easter Break, please do try and keep up with reading and numbots. When we return, we will be beginning to look at time in Maths, so you may want to get a head start!
